Welcome to Foundations I

The Foundations I In-Person Seminar is an immersive three-day training designed to move the principles introduced in Foundations I from intellectual understanding into direct physical, energetic, and contemplative practice.

During our time together, we will work with posture, breath, awareness, movement, meditation, internal cultivation, energetic perception, emotional release, and personal energetic hygiene.

The emphasis is not simply on learning exercises. It is on beginning to develop the internal skill, sensitivity, discipline, and self-awareness required for deeper energetic medicine training.

Come prepared to participate.

Training Curriculum

During the three-day seminar, we will explore and practice:

Energetic Hygiene

Developing practical skills for maintaining your own energetic boundaries, clearing accumulated energetic material, grounding, centering, and returning to your own internal state.

The 18 Rules of Posture

Learning the foundational structural principles used to align the physical body for standing, movement, breathing, meditation, and internal cultivation.

Introduction to Neigong

An introduction to internal skill cultivation and the foundational principles involved in developing awareness of the body from the inside.

Energy Games

Experiential exercises designed to develop sensitivity, awareness, attention, perception, and familiarity with energetic interaction.

Standing Meditation

Learning how standing practice can be used to cultivate alignment, awareness, grounding, relaxation, stillness, and internal regulation.

Internal Cultivation Skills

Beginning practices for developing greater awareness of breath, posture, intention, internal sensation, the dantians, and the movement of qi.

Point Tapping

Using specific points and regions of the body as part of energetic regulation, stimulation, clearing, and self-practice.

Spiritual Pathology

An introductory exploration of spiritual and energetic considerations within the Foundations I framework, including the importance of discernment, boundaries, sovereignty, and appropriate scope of practice.

The Three Journals

Working with the three-journal process as a method of observation, emotional processing, self-inquiry, reflection, and transformation.

SCREAM.
Recognizing and expressing what is actually present.

DREAM.
Exploring vision, possibility, imagination, and what is calling you forward.

BECOME.
Integrating insight into practice, action, and the person you are becoming.

Dry Crying

An experiential emotional-release practice taught within the Foundations I framework.

Seated Meditations

Guided practices developing stillness, awareness, internal observation, breath regulation, and contemplative skill.

Beat the Bag

May be incorporated into the seminar as an experiential emotional-release exercise at the discretion of the instructors and according to the needs of the class.

Integration Practices

Throughout the weekend, we will continually bring the material back into the body through grounding, regulation, observation, discussion, journaling, and practice.

What to Bring

    •    Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing suitable for movement
    •    Layers or a sweater for the conference room
    •    Comfortable shoes
    •    Water bottle
    •    Your SCREAM, DREAM, and BECOME journals
    •    Notebook for seminar notes
    •    Pens and pencils
    •    Any Foundations I course materials you have been asked to bring
    •    Yoga mat or practice mat if you prefer one for seated or floor work
    •    Small cushion or meditation cushion if needed for comfort
    •    Any medically necessary medications or personal health supplies
    •    An open mind and willingness to participate

Please avoid wearing strong perfumes, colognes, or heavily fragranced products in consideration of other participants.

Clothing

This is an experiential training.

Dress for comfort, movement, standing practice, meditation, and floor work rather than for a traditional conference.

Loose pants, leggings, T-shirts, sweatshirts, and other comfortable training clothing are appropriate.

You may wish to bring an additional layer because hotel meeting-room temperatures can vary.

Preparing for the Seminar

In the days leading up to the training:

Continue your regular Foundations I practice.

Prioritize adequate sleep.

Hydrate appropriately.

Eat in a way that supports sustained concentration and physical practice.

Bring your journals up to date.

Come prepared to observe yourself without judgment.

You are not expected to arrive having mastered the material. You are expected to arrive willing to practice, explore, ask questions, and learn.

Seminar Agreements

Foundations I training is built upon personal responsibility, respect, appropriate boundaries, and the principle of do no harm.

During the seminar:

    •    Respect the physical, emotional, and energetic boundaries of every participant.
    •    Do not perform energetic work on another person without clear instruction and consent.
    •    Do not diagnose other students.
    •    Maintain confidentiality regarding personal experiences shared by classmates.
    •    Participate within your own physical abilities.
    •    Tell an instructor if an exercise causes pain, dizziness, distress, or other concerning symptoms.
    •    Ask questions when you do not understand a practice.
    •    Allow other students to have experiences different from your own.
    •    Remain grounded in observation rather than assumption.
    •    Practice kindness toward yourself and others.

A Note About Experiential Work

Some Foundations I practices may involve strong physical sensations, emotional responses, memories, or unexpected personal insights.

There is no requirement to manufacture an experience.

Observe what actually arises.

The work is not about forcing release, forcing energy, or performing for the group. The practice is to develop greater sensitivity to what is genuinely occurring within you and to cultivate the ability to respond skillfully.

You always retain the ability to stop or modify an exercise if you are uncomfortable.

Medical Considerations

Please notify the instructional team before participating in physically demanding exercises if you have an injury, recent surgery, significant cardiovascular condition, balance disorder, pregnancy, or another medical circumstance that may require modification.

Energetic medicine education and Medical Qigong training are intended to complement appropriate healthcare and are not substitutes for emergency care, medical diagnosis, or necessary medical treatment.

The Spirit of the Weekend

Foundations I asks us to begin with something deceptively simple:

Become aware of what is actually happening inside you.

We learn to observe the body.

We learn to observe posture.

We learn to observe breath.

We learn to observe thought and emotion.

We learn to recognize where we are holding, resisting, collapsing, bracing, disconnecting, or becoming dysregulated.

Then we practice.

We ground.

We align.

We breathe.

We move.

We stand.

We become still.

We release what no longer needs to be held.

And gradually, we develop the internal conditions that allow greater harmony, regulation, awareness, and flow.

That is why Foundations I is called a foundation.

These practices become the ground upon which everything that follows is built.
